The awards will take place in Durban for the second year running, on Saturday, 1 March, at the International Conference Centre (ICC) with the ceremony airing live on SABC1 at 20:00.

"This year the awards are going extra-large as we celebrate 20 years of South Africa’s democracy and the extraordinary local music that's inspired us along the way," says Blue Moon's managing director of Events, Deana Heslop-Mthembu. "The show will be packed with artists performing highlights from two decades of uniquely South African music, as well as showcasing songs that are hot and happening on Metro FM right now."

The MMAs were aired live for the first time on SABC1 in 2013, paying homage to the Metro FM brand by involving its listeners, DJs, top artists and their music. The ceremony hit high notes for live television, with fans from all over the country joining in the celebrations on Twitter, resulting in the official hashtag, #MMA12, trending globally. In 2014, Blue Moon aims to create another inspiring extravaganza, celebrating the world-class artists who have created the dynamic urban rhythms and beats that South Africans have moved to, since democracy was declared.

“The 2014 MMAs will engage both the live audience and the very important fans at home. They are the music lovers who make the Metro FM brand so powerful," explains Heslop-Mthembu. "This year we're also celebrating Blue Moon's 25th anniversary in the business, so it's very special to partner with SABC1 and Metro FM to make musical history in 2014. Our philosophy is ‘Inspiring People’ and that's absolutely what we will deliver at the Metro FM Music Awards."
