Can we push the restart button on 2016?

Up until now, 2016 has been a fairly bleak year. What with the recent racist outbursts on social media and the ongoing water crisis that has engulfed the country.

It doesn’t seem to be getting any better when looking further afield. First came the announcement of David Bowie’s passing. Then it was Alan Rickman (or Professor Snape for all you Harry Potter fans). Finally came the news of the death of René Angéli, manager and husband of Celine Dion.

Can we pretend that this last week didn’t happen? Or better yet, can we redo the first two weeks of 2016? We’d like that very much.

Back to school back to reality

For many children of school-going age, this week wasn’t a great one either. For many of their parents, it certainly was.

The December holidays have come and gone, and the year has begun properly as schools opened this Wednesday across the country.
That also means more traffic in the mornings and afternoons. Bummer.

Is this finally Leo’s year?

The nominations for the 2016 Oscars were released earlier this year. And let’s just say we hope Leonardo Di Caprio comes away a winner. Please?

According to sources, 2016 has been tipped as Leo’s year to win an Oscar for his part in The Revenant, a film directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. Incidentally, the film has garnered 12 nods.

The film hasn’t hit SA circuits just yet (it starts on Friday, 22 January), but it’s worth checking out the trailer here.

Let’s hope it’s fifth time lucky for Mr Di Caprio.

#ZumaMustFall … again

This morning (15 January), Capetonians woke up to a giant #ZumaMustFall banner at the top of Long Street, above McDonalds.

No one currently knows how it got there or who put it up. The obvious conclusion is that the DA did it. But that’s unfair.

Whoever put up though is serious, considering that it costs over R200 000 to place anything there.

We're sure that all will be revealed in good time. Watch this space ...
