The Johannesburg-based full-service agency, which lists BMW; Standard Bank; the Apartheid Museum; and Jameson's as its clients, was founded in 2011 and is a member of the TBWA Worldwide Group.
Mike Di Terlizzi, managing director at Openco, says the agency has worked hard to maintain the creative standards and business performance that secured it the title in 2015.
“The team pulled out all the stops this past year; now we’re going to have to lift our game further to maintain the momentum,” Di Terlizzi says. Openco’s philosophy is that extraordinary times require extraordinary solutions.
“We continually ask ourselves what is the one thing that will help our clients achieve their brand building and sales objectives,” adds Di Terlizzi. “Sometimes, it’s not just one thing. Maybe it's several things working together? Or several things working independently? Or perhaps it is something that hasn't been done yet. The one constant is that it’s always about collaboration.”
Founder and chief creative director of Openco, Louis Gavin, says, “This word ‘collaboration’ is a vital one at Openco, one that underpins both our ethos and
modus operandi. So, being named
Small Agency of the Year for the second year running is not the result of one or two exceptional individuals, it’s the result of a willing and very talented team. A team that is open to new ideas and respectful of others’ opinions. A team that is open to collaboration and breaking through conventional barriers. In today's complex business environment, doing the same thing and expecting a different result is not, as the saying goes, ‘insanity – it's business suicide’. The one thing we do know for certain is that we can no longer simply run an ad and expect results. The other thing we now for certain is that none of us is as strong as all of us. This award proves it.”
