Over this period, they were also given exposure to the industry with weekly live briefs set by agencies, where they got to conceptualise campaigns and show off their talents to prospective employers. The programme also offered job readiness skills to ensure that they were able to thrive in the workplace and offer value to their employers.

"Over five years, the Digify Pro programme has managed to train more than 500 young people and kickstart over 250 agency careers in South Africa and Nigeria," says Qhakaza Mthembu, chief operations officer at Digify Africa. "What we are particularly proud of is how we are creating quality talent, which is taking over the industry and creating award-worthy work."

The Digify Pro programme has been creating impact by creating access to digital skills for young people. Its contribution has been recognised by the digital industry with two Bookmark Awards for Best Contribution to Digital Transformation in both 2017 and 2019.

"This year, with Facebook's continued support, we have been able to extend our reach launching two new cohorts in Durban and Nairobi — a testament to the growth of the programme," says Mthembu.

"As a youth-driven network, our purpose is to support young people learning, working and leading Africa's digital economy. We are excited to be able to bring the programme to more and more young people in Africa," Mthembu says.

"We are proud of the graduates and admire the determination and drive they have shown throughout this programme. We look forward to seeing them kickstart their careers and thriving in this industry," concludes Mthembu.
