The inaugural Volkswagen Brand Advertising Awards were announced at a marketing conference in Geneva this week. Twelve awards were handed out in the following categories: interactive and relationship marketing; print advertising; television advertising; and ‘specials’ – for campaigns that did not fall into the above categories
The most coveted category by far was Television which was won by Volkswagen South Africa.
This was the only category that Jochen Sengpiehl, Head of Marketing for the Volkswagen Brand, stated the judges were satisfied with the high standard of work.
Volkswagen South Africa was awarded Gold for first place in the television category for the GTI “Dreams” commercial created by their long-standing agency Ogilvy Cape Town. This was huge recognition for VWSA in the presence of 60 other markets. The second place winner was Germany who won silver and the UK won bronze.
“Congratulations to everyone who worked on the commercial. It certainly is an enormous achievement to be number one in the world in the television category”, says Carrin Merkel, the Marketing and Communications Manager for Volkswagen.
