According to the awards, Ikalafeng received the award for his contribution to the public relations and communications industry.

Ikalafeng is an internationally-acclaimed marketer with a career spanning over 25 years. He is a global African thought leader and authoritative voice in branding across Africa, says the group.

Thabisile Phumo, chief judge of the PRISM Awards, announced Ikalafeng as the winner of the 2022 award. 

"Brands create jobs and expand the tax bases that fund development programmes. Ultimately, brands are a vector of our nation brands, our competitiveness and wealth. This award is an encouragement to stay on that course. I am eternally grateful and honoured to receive it," concludes Ikalafeng 

Ikalafeng, who studied in South Africa, United States and Italy, started his career at Colgate Palmolive in New York and left corporate after a standout award-winning tenure as chief marketing officer for Nike for Africa.

He has been to every country in Africa and worked in over 25 countries on the continent Africa, where he built a reputation as the foremost advocate of the African renaissance to strengthen the continent's stature.

Ikalafeng has been recognised by New Africa Magazine as one of the '100 Most Influential Africans'. He was also recognised as one of the '100 Most Influential Creative People of African Descent' in support of the United Nations International Year of the Creative Economy for Sustainable Development. 

Additionally, he was awarded the Financial Mail AdFocus Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021 for his contributions to the marketing, branding and communications industry.
