Recognising the need to develop South Africa’s health awareness and educational skills, Primestars Marketing this month hosts episode one of the Liberty Medical Scheme Health Initiative, in association with Clicks and Canderel. Converting Ster Kinekor’s national cinema network into Theatres of Learning, Primestars will deliver the message that with preventative care, breast cancer need not be a death sentence.

Martin Sweet, Primestars Managing Director explains: “The benefit of using the cinema platform as Theatres of Learning, is that companies are able to communicate nationally, on the same day, to thousands of citizens; women; youth; corporates; and small business owners to make a meaningful contribution to upliftment; education; and economic growth in our country.”

Via broadcast to Ster-Kinekor’s screens, on 25 March, Dr Warren Sive of the Liberty Medical Scheme hosts Dr Gereth Edwards and Dr Carol-Ann Benn who will provide the latest information on treatments; medications; and technology related to the disease.

Dr Gereth Edwards is Chairman of The Breast Health Foundation and Manager of the Netcare Breast Care Centre of Excellence while Dr Benn, quoted as one of South Africa's top breast-cancer experts, is the Founder of The Breast Health Foundation as well as the Breast-Care Clinics at Baragwanath, Helen Joseph and Milpark hospitals.

Dr Benn holds revered achievements including being a specialist surgeon at Netcare’s Breast Care Centre of Excellence and is a surgeon at, and head of the Helen Joseph Hospital’s Premier Breast Unit.

Gerry Rantseli-Elsdon will a host panel discussion during which a number of breast cancer survivors will relay their message of hope to the public, followed by a screening of an example of a mammogram, and instruction on how women can perform critical self-examinations.

“Via the cinema platform we aim to relay the message that breast cancer need not be a death sentence - as long as women are aware of their bodies and perform self-examinations regularly, the climbing statistics of breast cancer prevalence can be arrested,” adds Sweet.
