Members of the public, who would like to attend this glittering event, will have to move quickly as only a limited number of tickets are still available.

Besides the coolest cats in Afrikaans advertising walking away with much moolah and many trophies and certificates, the winners of Die Mense se Doring (to determine the most popular Afrikaans advertisement of the past decade); the rap competition for agencies and students; and ADS24’s T-shirt competition for agencies and design studios will also be announced at the awards, with great prizes to boot!

As usual, the overall winner of the Pendoring Prestige Award will receive a bag full of prizes, including the big golden Doring trophy; a category prize of R6 000; and an overseas study trip of R25 000, as well as a framed certificate. Winners of silver Pendorings will receive R2 500 and silver Pendoring trophies.

This year’s overall student winner will not only bag a Pendoring trophy; a cash prize of R6 000; and a study bursary of R10 000, but also an internship at Draftfcb, one of the top advertising agencies in the country.

And to crown it all, the client of the Prestige Award winner, will receive a massive R2.5-million worth of free advertising space/airtime.

The evening’s presenters are ddisselblom founder member; writer; and TV presenter, Johrné van Huyssteen, and Elma Smit, presenter of Studio1 on MK and disc jockey on 5FM.

Even before the event officially kicks off, guests will be treated to welcoming drinks and music by The 3 Busketeers in the Vodadome’s foyer.

The ‘pampering’ doesn’t stop there! Besides the delectable meal consisting of a variety of gourmet dishes, guests will also be treated to two bottles of free mineral water; two bottles of free wine; as well as goody bags, sponsored by kykNET, filled to the brim with gifts from Pendoring’s sponsors.

This year Pendoring’s gold sponsors include Ads24; ATKV; Beeld; Huisgenoot; kykNET; Media24; Rapport; and Toyota, with OFM a silver sponsor and Caxton Newspapers; Die Burger; Jacaranda 94.2; MK; Sanlam; Vodacom; and Het Jan Marais Nationale Fonds bronze sponsors. Other Pendoring partners are kulula.com; Eurocom; DEKAT; Kfm; Klipdrift; Leopard’s Leap Wines; Nielsen Media & Marketing; OFM Digital Platforms; RSG; and Wiel. According to Pendoring GM, Franette Klerck, the 2010 Pendoring campaign theme, Skep in Afrikaans en bewys jou cool, will also be very visible at the gala-event.

“Both the invitations; the audio-visual presentation; and menu reflect aspects of the campaign theme. And the work of the finalists, which will be shown on three big screens, will clearly indicate the impact and power of expression of Afrikaans as an advertising language.

“However, Pendoring’s role does not end at the gala event. Now, more than ever, it is paramount that the entire value chain is informed throughout the year about the importance and impact of Afrikaans advertising.

“Marketers need to revisit spending figures and acknowledge that the buying power of the Afrikaans market simply cannot be ignored. This, in turn, will not only provide work for Afrikaans advertising creatives, but will ensure that powerful Afrikaans advertising maintains its rightful place in the South African advertising landscape. Moreover, well-considered Afrikaans advertising spend is bound to flow through to consumers who eventually will buy in the language of their heart,” Klerck stresses.
