Jan Horn, Vega Cape Town campus navigator proudly remarks: “We are particularly excited, because our move next year to the CBD (11 Adderley street ) puts us even closer to the vibrant city centre. The impact and impetus the winning of the Design Capital of the World bid for 2014 will have on projects like Creative Cape Town, The Cape Town Partnership, The Fringe and others aiming to make Cape Town the design, innovation and creativity hub of Africa will be invaluable. Vega Cape Town is ready to play an active role and contribute towards the goals of The Design Capital of the World 2014 by being not only a spectator, but an active partner”.

The new Vega campus at 11 Adderley boasts larger classrooms, extra photography studios, a new darkroom, student “chill area”, a room dedicated to students wanting to work on their laptops, lockers, canteen and coffee shop on the 4th floor atrium, the skywalk to secure parking at the Golden Acre Parkade for students and visitors. The new campus location provides Vega students with access to many exciting facilities and amenities.

Apart from brand new facilities, the 11 Adderley building also offers many excellent features:

There is an in-house canteen / coffee shop on the 4th floor (one floor above us). This coffee shop will offer a special students menu and pricing.

The building has 24-hour access and security with one entrance. Biometric access control will be introduced on the 3rd floor campus access point, off the lift lobby. This will further enhance security to the Vega Campus, and more importantly provide accurate time and attendance records, for students and staff. Attendance in class, it has been proven, bears a direct correlation to results!

There are so many different food courts and restaurants in the area, catering for every possible taste and preference, and a wide price range is catered for.

We are surrounded by all types of retail and convenience stores like Edgars, Woolworths, OK,CNA and many more within a stone’s throw from the front door to 11 Adderley building, and in the inter-leading Golden Acre shopping precinct with direct access, via the Skybridge, to the Cape Town train and bus station.

There is also an underground bypass to the Cape Town CBD pedestrian precinct of Greenmarket Square. Students will now have access to the National Public Library, museums, Parliament Gardens, banks, etc, all within walking distance.

Horn also mentions:”Another very exciting development in Cape Town, and especially within the area we are moving to, is the development of The East City Design Initiative or as it is better-known: The East City Design Initiative (ECDI) “The Fringe “By strategically placing ourselves closer to this area earmarked and being actively developed as the “Creativity and Design Hub” in Africa we will ensure that our students and organisation are exposed to the cutting edge of the industry. It is our plan to become one of the main role players contributing towards the vision and goals of the Creative Cape Town, The Fringe and Cape Town Partnership initiatives. The project is heavily supported by the Provincial Government of the Western Cape’s department of economic development and tourism through its Cape Catalyst Initiative, in recognition of the importance of the creative sector in growing the provincial economy through relevant infrastructure. The project is also supported by a number of departments in the City of Cape Town, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology’s (CPUT) faculty of informatics and design, and other civil society bodies. It is currently being project managed by the Cape Town Partnership through its Creative Cape Town programme and forms an important element.”
