Commenting on his appointment, McLennan said: “It’s an honour for both myself and for South Africa to be chosen to chair the radio jury at the Cannes Lion Festival of Creativity. Radio is an important medium in South Africa and we’ve done pretty well in this category. I am really looking forward to working with the world’s leading creatives to find the freshest work for one of our oldest mediums.”

Philip Thomas, CEO of Cannes Lions, said: “Being asked to preside over a jury in Cannes is an honour but it can also be a challenging task leading a jury through a mass of global entries to award the world’s best work and showcase it to thousands of creative minds. Rob has been chosen for his proven standing and achievements in the industry but also for his ability to lead his jury in successfully deciphering the 2012 winners. We look forward to welcoming him in Cannes.”

Winning a multitude of awards over the years, McLennan has been responsible for many memorable campaigns including Dulux ‘Any Colour you can Think of’, Axe ‘Get a Girlfriend’, Virgin Atlantic ‘Plain Insanity’ and Mercedes Benz ‘Accident Avoidance’. He has also amassed an impressive collection of over 35 Lions.

Net#work BBDO made history in 2011 at the 58th annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity by becoming the first ever South African agency to have won three Cannes Lion Grand Prix Awards in just five years, including two Radio Grand Prix (2009 and 2001).

The prestigious D&AD awards also recently announced that McLennan would form part of its global line-up of judges for their 50th D&AD Awards.
