Net#work BBDO once again demonstrated its world class leadership in the radio category with its two
Gold Lions for Mercedes-Benz and two
Bronze Lions for its Benzac Acne Treatment ‘brand positioning’ campaign and Chicken Licken ‘Chicken Licken strike’ campaign. All three winning radio campaigns were created by Net#work BBDO creative directors Brent Slinger and Jenny Glover.
The agency was also awarded a
Bronze Lion in the outdoor category for its Mercedes–Benz ‘The Triangle Knows’ billboard campaign. The campaign was conceptualised by Net#work BBDO’s Sarel Chauke under the expert guidance of creative directors Bruce Anderson and Robert Rutherford. Chauke is currently completing an internship with the agency.
Says Boniswa Pezisa, Net#work BBDO group managing director, “for a young learner to conceptualise such a novel idea demonstrates Net#work BBDO’s ongoing commitment to developing and cultivating young talent, a company value we adopted from the inception of our agency.”
Pezisa goes onto say, “we are thrilled with our wins at this year’s
Cannes Lion. As an agency and as a business, recognition of our work on such a great platform is very significant and gratifying. In addition, these accolades highlight the agency's consistent performance in delivering innovative ideas and campaigns, which is a core focus at Net#work BBDO. “
The Johannesburg-based agency made history last year at
Cannes Lion by becoming the first South African agency to have won three
Cannes Lion Grand Prix Awards in just five years. In 2007, the agency was awarded its first
Cannes Lion Grand Prix in the outdoor category for its Nedbank solar-powered ‘power to the people’ billboard campaign and went on to win another
Grand Prix in the radio category for its Virgin Atlantic Upper Class ‘plain insanity – ferret, dog, dancer’ campaign in 2009. Last year, the agency won the prestigious
Cannes Lion Radio Grand Prix for its ‘Mercedes-Benz – safety features love, Bud, and Toby’ radio campaign.
Rob McLennan, executive creative director for Net#work BBDO and
Radio Lions jury president at the 59
th Cannes Lion International Festival of Creativity comments on the award wins: “It is a fantastic achievement to continue being awarded for our work and we are extremely proud that we have managed to maintain such a high standard of creativity and remain at the forefront of the advertising industry, both locally and globally."
Net#work BBDO is run from its creative base in Johannesburg by Boniswa Pezisa (group managing director), Rob McLennan (executive creative director), Joy Turnbull (deputy managing director) and Graeme Jenner (deputy executive creative director).
