In the next few months, the ultimate venue in which to relax and enjoy a movie will be available to cinema-goers at The Grove in Pretoria East, at its flagship site at Gateway in Durban and in Sandton City in Johannesburg.
Fiaz Mahomed, CEO of Ster-Kinekor Theatres, has confirmed that the two Cine Prestige theatres at the revamped The Grove shopping mall in Pretoria, each of which has 27 seats, will commence trading on Friday, 28 February. Audiences will be treated to the latest releases, including
Pad Na Jou Hart, and the multi-Oscar nominated
American Hustle, in the two luxury cinemas.
The conversion process has commenced at the other two sites. The completion date for the two new Cine Prestige theatres at Gateway is expected to be mid-March, with Sandton’s cinema opening shortly thereafter.
“The exclusive Cine Prestige concept, the ‘business class’ of cinema theatres, was launched at The Zone in Rosebank in 2012, and extended to our new complex at Cradlestone Mall, which houses two of these cinemas, when the mall opened in November last year. It has proved to be an extremely popular option in which to watch a film, and our decision to introduce this upgraded format at more of our cinemas is as a result of positive audience feedback. The builds at these new sites join our growing Cine Prestige offering, and bring the number of these luxury cinemas to an impressive eight,” comments Mahomed.
The two Cine Prestige cinemas at Gateway will each boast 39 seats, while the converted cinema in Sandton will accommodate 57 people. The screens in each of these new cinemas – and at The Grove - are all 3D-enabled, to accommodate any new title that is released in this larger-than-life format.
These innovations follow the company’s roll-out of the full digital conversion at all Ster-Kinekor cinemas towards the end of 2013. The result of this is that now every site boasts the latest in digital projector technology and quality surround-sound speaker systems, as the company continues to satisfy cinema audiences’ demand for the latest in cinema technology.
“It is interesting to note that the Cine Prestige format performs consistently well throughout the year, irrespective of what title is being screened. For us, this points to the fact that audiences go there to enjoy the luxurious experience, while being treated to a great movie at the same time.”
The luxurious Cine Prestige specialist cinemas epitomise film-viewing heaven and pure luxury rolled into one. Audiences are invited to lie back and relax in large, comfortable chairs in an exclusive environment, while watching the latest cinema releases on the big digital screen.
Each of these cinemas boasts a mix of single and double pure leather recliner seats that ooze lavish comfort, for that perfect date-night out. Each seat has a special snack tray neatly fitted into it, to enjoy delicious snacks and drinks during the movie. Added to the experience is an exclusive VIP lounge area at each site, where delicious platters of food can be ordered and enjoyed inside the Cine Prestige cinema, and where queuing is a thing of the past.
“We are very proud of our new Cine Prestige cinemas, as we continue to bring the very best in cinema entertainment – in the most luxurious environments - to South Africans. We have pledged to give our audiences ‘great moments at their greatest’ with every movie experience. Our investment into the new Cine Prestige theatres at The Grove, Gateway and Sandton provides further evidence of our ongoing commitment to continuously deliver on this promise,” concludes Mahomed.
