“My style of cooking is to prepare locally sourced food, much of it grown by ourselves, and to serve it in the simplest and most flavoursome combinations,” says Joubert. “The biggest lesson I have learned is that simple and honest food, together with great wine, will always have the best results.”

In 2013 he and cooking partner, Tiaan Langenegger, entered kykNET’s reality cooking competition Kokkedoor, and won the competition.

Makietie, a 13-part cooking and decorating series, was offered to them by kykNET and aired earlier in 2014. A second series will be produced and aired by the end of 2014.

It was through Makietie that Joubert got to know the brand managers from KWV and, recognising his passion for food and wine, he was thought to be the ideal person to represent Paarl’s most awarded wines.

“People sometimes see KWV as a big corporate, and we wanted to change that perception through food, entertainment and lifestyle. Mynhardt’s passion, as well as his indefatigable enthusiasm for life, made him the perfect representative for KWV Wines and our spirit of Proud Pioneers,” comments Charlene Engels, global brand manager for KWV wines.

Joubert demonstrated food and wine pairings at the recent Good Food and Wine Show in Johannesburg. He is also about to open Paarl’s first Lifestyle Cafe and Winebar on Station Street, which will open its doors to the public on Monday, 1 September.
