“That said, we’re still being patronised by pink! For example, last year, a tablet was designed specifically for women. Called the ePad Femme, the tablet was available pre-loaded with a pink-hued background and a collection of apps women are sure to love like grocery list apps, shopping apps, yoga apps. Really?” says Farrell.

To this end, 1st for Women Insurance has launched its very own dedicated smartphone application designed by women, for women. Farrell explains, “Our purpose with this app is to make life easier for South African women because, as we all know, time is always of the essence.”

The new app is available in the Google Play, Apple and Windows app stores. It can be found in the Finance or Utilities category or by searching for ‘1st for Women’. The app is completely free but standard data costs will apply.

Promising to make life simpler for all women, not just policyholders, the app offers easy access to a range of service including:

- Policy Management: Customers will be able to submit a first notification of a claim, view their policy, submit policy related requests, view their account details and submit a request to update their account details via the app;
- Service Providers: Customers will be able to use their cellphone’s location based services to find their nearest service provider for window repairs, inspections or for a panel beater;
- Quick quotes: App users will be able to get a quick-quote for short-term insurance, life insurance and personal insurance. They can request a business insurance consultant to contact them for a quote;
- Click-to-chat: By clicking on the click-to-chat icon, the app user will be connected to a consultant;
- Call me back: App users can submit their name and number and a consultant will call them back to do a telephonic insurance quote;
- Guardian Angels: The app will allow both policyholders and non-policyholders the ability to request a Guardian Angel to assist and ‘guard’ them. In the case of a mechanical breakdown, a flat battery or flat tyre in a dangerous place; and
- Personal Loans: App users will be able to apply for a personal loan from DirectAxis via the app.

“This is a very exciting development,” concludes Farrell, “no matter where you are or how much multi-tasking you are doing, you’ll be able to get exactly what you need - and fast.”
