The premium beer brand campaign showcases the similar journeys the two have followed to establish themselves, yet always remaining true to their roots.

Says Rosemary Shippiki, national marketing manager, Namibia Breweries Limited: “When we looked for ways to bring the Windhoek Lager story to life, we searched for a world class African hero that we could partner with as an ambassador for the brand, noting that Windhoek Lager consumers wanted a world class African hero that is both humble and authentic. We valued self-conduct, involvement and commitment to home country, and reinvestment in the community above career achievements. This led us to Didier Drogba, who we had the priviledge of spending time with on 10 November 2014.”

Drogba shares the same values and conviction that Windhoek Lager does. “When we formalised the agreement, Drogba expressed an interest in coming to Namibia to see the Namibian Brewery and meet the people of Namibia. Although his time in Windhoek was limited, he attended a media conference and also engaged with the public and staff at the Brewery.”

During his visit, Drogba emphasised the importance of education, and urged consumers to take care of and nurture children as they are the future. He went on tell them to believe in their dreams and to work hard in order to see results.

The partnership which was formalised at the end of 2013 sees Drogba appearing in a TV commercial titled ‘The Journey’. The commercial shows Drogba bringing to life the Windhoek Lager journey and how it is now a world class African beer and the hard choices that were made to achieve this goal.
