Celebrating its 11th year in 2008, the Aardklop National Arts Festival will take place from 30 September to 4 October in Potchefstroom, North West Province.
Conveniently located between Gauteng and the Free State, Aardklop has grown over the past 11 years from a mere regional festival focusing on the promotion of the Afrikaans performing arts, to a truly national festival, showcasing the talent of an array of local and international artists from the fields of the performing arts, visual arts, and crafts. While the festival still has a strong Afrikaans focus, English – and even Tswana – productions have become important fixtures on the festival’s programme.
Attracting an estimated 170 000 people to the week-long festivities, Aardklop has also grown into a prime branding and advertising event. The festival produces a festival guide and a newspaper, both of which offer great value to advertisers wishing to communicate with this lucrative market.
Aardklop festival offices are located in Potchefstroom, confirming the festival’s commitment to promoting and develoing the arts within the local community. A memorandum of agreement between the festival, the Tlokwe Municipality and the North West University, has earned Aardklop a place in the hearts of everyone in the region.
