As media, honoured guests, and VIPS entered the venue, Ridiculousness Africa hosts Boity Thulo and Thomas Gumede entertained them with pre-show laughter and need-to-know information about the first episode. Once all guests were seated and warmed up, the festivities began.
The show puts a local spin on the Rob Dyrdek-fronted US comedy clip show, and celebrates the brave, yet foolish, people who are prepared to risk life and limb for 15 seconds of fleeting fame.
The first episode was jam-packed with crazy “do not try this at home” stunts and antics ranging from fire cracker stints, flying jet skis, ice bucket challenge fails, hilarious cat videos, ‘do not drink and film’ clips, awkward proposals and beer bottle opening with the *throat clearing* backside bottle opener (how is that even possible?).
Providing commentary for the first episode alongside Gumede and Thulo were celebrity guests Nasty C and Nigerian-born funny man, Basketmouth. The panel had a few laughs, shared behind the scenes footage of filming on location in Madrid, Spain, and even gave the audience a sneak peak of what’s to come in the following episode.
After the first screening, the real ridiculousness was brought to guests with roller-skating chickens and sumo wrestlers, a Panda dancing to Panda, and a show-stopping performance by Nasty C.
Future episodes of the show will feature big name celebrities including actress Nomzamo Mbatha, TV and radio personality Dineo Ranaka, and Nigerian Rapper, YCEE.
Ridiculousness Africa premieres on MTV (DStv channel 130) on Thursday, 14 July at 21:12 CAT.
