Launching on SaffronTV (channel 456 on DSTV Indian) on Monday, 1 September at 19:30, Biggest Loser Jeetega is a show which will not only change the lives of the 16 contestants forever, but at the same time be inspirational and motivate audiences to stay fit and healthy.

Hosted by a popular Bollywood action star Sunil Shetty, Biggest Loser Jeetega is a reality show with a difference. Set in the breathtaking locales of Aamby Valley City, Lonavla, India - 16 overweight contestants from all walks of life will fight it out against each other to be crowned India’s first ever Biggest Loser. The contestants are divided into two teams with each team being assigned a trainer. The two teams do fun tasks: they dance, sing, race, and have various other crazy competitions in order to win. Of course, every week someone gets eliminated.

Based on the US format, which launched on NBC in 2004, Biggest Loser Jeetega has proved to be just as successful as its international counterparts. The show has been produced in 23 countries including South Africa, Australia, Germany, Mexico, Hungary, the Netherlands and Brazil, where it has enjoyed excellent ratings.

The basic premise of the show is that overweight contestants are competing to win a cash prize by losing the highest percentage of their starting body weight. Each week culminates in a weigh-in to determine which team has lost the most weight for that week, in percentage of total weight lost. The team that has lost the lower percentage during that week must vote off one member of the team until only two remain. These two then compete for the cash prize in the grand Finale.

Biggest Loser Jeetega was produced by renowned Bollywood producer Rahul Aggarwal – who has also produced movies like ‘Manoranja’, Khamosh-Khouf Ki Raat’, ‘Love In Nepal’ and ‘Bharata Bhagya Vidhata’.

According to Aggarwal: “this is an inspirational reality show unlike Big Brother, as there are no celebrities in the show. All the participants are common office-going people like the rest of us. When these contestants lose their excess weight, the people around them are inspired by them and will try to lose their own excess weight.”

“We wanted to bring a revolutionary change in India,” says Aggarwal. “We decided on Sunil Shetty as the host of this show because he has been a fitness Icon in India for many years. He not only preaches about fitness, but also practices it in his own life.”
