The South African brother-and-sister duo, Bobby and Karlien van Jaarsveld, will spend 48 hours in the shoes of someone whose world is completely different from their own. Their emotional adventures are not always just about walking in someone else’s shoes, but also about making a difference to people’s lives, and VIA viewers can help too.

Through Candystick, South Africa’s digital and social platform for fund collection, viewers can donate money to some of the causes featured on Bobby en Karlien: In jou skoenes and, in doing so, make a difference.

Five causes from the first season of the show will be paired with fund-raising campaigns on Candystick:

  • Episode 1, which airs on Wednesday, 11 January, viewers are invited to help the children of the Abraham Kriel children’s home;
  • Episode 2, which airs on Wednesday, 25 January, viewers are invited to donate to Hanna Charity, a foundation dedicated to South Africans living in poverty in Elandspoort near Danville;
  • Episode 5, which airs on Wednesday, 8 February, viewers are invited to help Andries Douglas, a real-life superhero who has made uplifting the people of Ceres his mission.
  • Episode 8, which airs on Wednesday, 1 March, viewers are invited to help the rhinos by contributing to the Stop Rhino Poaching organisation; and
  • Episode 10, which airs on Wednesday, 15 March, viewers are invited to donate and help Dr Liana Roodt of the Groote Schuur hospital and her Project Flamingo initiative which is giving women with breast cancer a second chance.
