Today, 21 October, sees the launch of Izzit, a new lifestyle magazine that addresses the needs of people of mixed heritage (also referred to as ‘coloured’ or ‘brown’ people).

The magazine is expected to also have secondary readerships in the broader context of the South African landscape and the diaspora.

Izzit will have a lively, practical and contemporary focus, with the aim to enhance readers’ information, knowledge and skills base about themselves and the ‘Coloured’ community in general, which has been fragmented and isolated for many decades.

Izzit will bring new, different perspectives, provide a forum for interaction and an exchange of ideas and practices, present new developments and trends, encourage personal growth and participation, and promote interest in this complex community and its challenges.

The name Izzit is derived from the phrases ‘Is it?’ and ‘Is dit?” and reflects the bilingual profile of the community. It also implies that questions, queries and expectations readers may have will be answered in the magazine. The magazine will thus have content in both English and Afrikaans.

Izzit will be published bi-monthly by Lebone Purge Media. It will carry regular features, columns, one-off articles and special, themed sections. These include profiles, case studies, genealogy, investigations, advice on household queries, food, health and exercise, finances and careers, as well as the latest news in entertainment, fashion, technology and sustainable living.

A strong emphasis will be placed on literature, especially Afrikaans prose and poetry aimed at young people. Up till now there have not been readily available and easily accessible avenues for them to pursue these aspirations.

The magazine will be available for R19.95 at bookstores and other retailers serving the community, as well as on subscription at R100 for six issues. Further details and a subscription form, may be found on the magazine’s website, www.izzitmagazine.com. The magazine will also be available on the website.
