“I"m so inspired and grateful for having won this Award! So grateful to my Director Shamim Sarif for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to shine, and for our producer Hanan Katan"s fierce determination and passion. Thank you to all my fellow actors and everyone at Enlightenment Productions and Do Productions, who made working on this movie such an incredible experience. It"s such a blessing to be able to do what you love with people you love and respect, and call it ‘work’. Winning this award has been the cherry on top!” says Natalie.

The World Unseen, which will be released at Ster-Kinekor Theatres in South Africa from this Friday (13 February), is a touching love story set in the apartheid era of South Africa in the 1950s; a saga which transcends the boundaries of colour and conventional relationships. It is inspired by the true stories of Sarif’s own grandmother, and is based on her debut novel of the same name. The book has also received awards and critical acclaim, and Sarif herself adapted the screenplay. The film was shot entirely in South Africa, with a local and international cast.
The SAFTAs are held annually to recognise and give accolade to practitioners in the South African Film and Television industry. Hosted by comedian and TV Personality Trevor Noah, the event which attracted persons from the film and television industry, LOC representatives, government, business and celebrities, was broadcast live on SABC 2.
“This year’s Award ceremony once more attests to the high standard of excellence that we have grown accustomed to in the industry. We are encouraged by the level of enthusiasm and commitment shown by industry participants who continuously develop and enhance their own talents, and in so doing add to the value of winning the coveted Golden Horn trophy. As we continue to raise the bar in terms of increasing the quality of both what we put into the industry and what comes out of it, we look forward to realising our goal of developing the SAFTAs into a fully-fledged Academy that will be responsible for the awards,” said Eddie Mbalo NFVF (National Film & Video Foundation) CEO and SAFTAs committee Chairperson.
