The two-day affair, held at Dlamini Community Hall in Soweto, recognised and honoured township entrepreneurs and members of the National Tourism and Hospitality Association, as well as the Gauteng Liquor Forum, which has used its success to aim to empower and inspire communities and the township economy as a whole.

The Spotong Women in Business and Gentlemen in Business events aim to provide an invaluable platform to engage with dynamic and influential township entrepreneurs who connect with their township communities.

Over the two day period, township entrepreneurs had the opportunity to participate in motivational talks from industry leaders. There were also giveaways and prizes, and participants were able to interact with the trade exhibitors on-show.

Sean Press, CEO of Contact Media & Communications, says, "It was a very proud moment seeing these amazing township entrepreneurs coming together to share their success stories. At Spotong, we know we form part of a larger community, and that we only thrive because the communities in which we operate thrive."

Ingrid Louw, CEO of Aware.org, adds, "I think this event is critical because it’s real partnerships in action. I think we need to recognise our key stakeholders and our partners on the ground."

Louw says, "If we are to work at grassroots level with communities to address the issues of alcohol abuse and misuse in the country, we need to recognise role players. I think that’s what Spotong does, and that’s what they do well. We are here to partner with them, and we are here to lock hands and say let’s do this together – because we cannot do it on our own."

Nick Mohammed, national sales manager of Ithuba, adds, "Spotong magazine has worked well for us. We signed up quite a few new retailers with the magazine as well. We are getting a lot of exposure and have exceeded our expectations, and we thank Spotong for being in partnership with us."

According to Spotong, a very significant part of its event is that each and every supplier is sourced from the local community. This aims to ensure that both events not only impact the marketing strategies and ROI of the sponsors, but also have an impact on suppliers’ lives and businesses as well as the local community.

Sponsors include Ithuba as headline sponsor, Aware.org as NGO headline sponsor and category partners, Club 10, Ricoffy, Amka, Paycorp, JTI and TymeDigital.
