ARIFF began last year as a pre-event to the
Global Festival Week in South Africa and
Mandela 100 Festival. The 2019 programme will take place in Newton.
"In our quest for inclusion and full participation, we are thrilled that this documentary is making its way to the festival," says Lala Tuku of the
ARIFF team. "Female voices are important in film festivals."
Nadia Naked: The Album Documentary tells the story behind the debut album
Nadia Naked by the multi-award-winning African Rap musician Nadia Nakai. Nakai originates from Nigeria, and has won an
All Africa Music Awards: Best Female Artiste in Southern Africa, as well as
Best Artist, Duo or Group in African Hip Hop.The documentary is a visual listening session that takes the audience on a journey through the entire album with a mixture of documentary footage, interviews, live performances and music videos that are set within the context of the launch event for the album. The film is directed by Takezito of The Visual Content Gang, who is also the creative director of The Naked Xperience.
This year's Pan African Legends Series will see
ARIFF honouring South African producer, director and writer Ramdan Suleman. His award-winning films
Fools and
Zulu Love Letter, as well as his latest documentary
By All Means Necessary, will form part of
ARIFF's 2019 film screenings programme. Other African films/documentaries at the festival include
Busiswa: An Unbreakable Story and
Mama Africa.
