Mostert, an award-winning media executive with more than 12 years' radio industry experience, says he is optimistic about his departure from a regional station to the national youth powerhouse.
His radio career started at TUKS FM in 2008, where he was a production manager before moving on to a lecturing role at Boston Media House in 2009.
Other roles he held at various regional radio stations included executive producing two breakfast shows. He then took on the role of executive and content programme manager at a Johannesburg radio station — a position that he has held for the past five years.
"5FM has always been an exciting brand with a rich and proud history, and being afforded the opportunity to be part of the team is an incredible honour. The bar has been set high, with the audience appropriately only demanding the best. And while it is a seemingly daunting challenge, it is a challenge that the team is eagerly willing to take on," Mostert adds.
Mostert holds several certifications, which include a master of business administration from the Gordon Institute of Business Science, a post-graduate diploma in general management and bachelor of commerce in business management.
Fikelephi says he is equally pleased as he joins the station in the programme manager role. Having worked at SABC before, Siya took on the roles of station producer and music compiler at Radio 2000 in 2010 before taking on a management role as the station's programme manager two years later.
He then moved to Umhlobo Wenene FM in 2016, where he lead the team for three years. Under his leadership, the station won 15 Liberty Radio Awards and two Station of the Year Awards between 2016 and 2019. "It is always exciting to join an iconic brand such as 5FM. We have an amazing team with immense talents," he says.
Fikelephi has over 15 years' experience in the radio and media Industry and holds a journalism and sound engineering diploma, a management development programme from the University of Stellenbosch, an advanced certificate in radio from Wits University and an essentials in broadcast management from Rhodes University.
5FM’s marketing manager, Liesl Hefkie, who acted as station manager since May 2018, says she is excited to welcome new talent to the management team and eager for their fresh ideas and plans for the station.
"Both JD and Siya come highly recommended and enjoy a wealth of knowledge and experience within the industry. I’m looking forward to seeing some of their great ideas come to life on 5FM, as we continue to engage with listeners and live loud," Liesl concludes.
