According to Standard Bank, Tommy is recognised for his contribution to the arts and for his passion for educating deaf children through art.

"He has always been passionate about his craft and the way bright colours seem to make a sound in his mind when he paints," says the bank.

Standard Bank adds that it wanted to tell Tommy's story through an amazing innovative and new idea. The bank used gloves (Lucky's glove) that can translate sign language into spoken words.

Through the radio advert, The bank says that Tommy was given the ability to tell his story and in his first language for the first time using the gloves. Standard Bank further created a TVC that is based on the invention.
