Discover how as media update's Lara Smit teaches you how to hasten your writing pace here:

1. Stop being a perfectionist
Self-editing is one of writing's biggest enemies. One moment you have words cascading out of your pen, and the next, you're overthinking what you've written … and your steady flow comes to a sudden halt.

As difficult as it may be, if you want to get your writing done quickly, you have to ignore the voice in your head that strives for perfection and remind yourself that you can always edit and remove those bits you aren't too sure about later.

2. Make a skeleton
Creating a skeleton is one of the best ways to speed up your writing. Why?

Once you have done all the research, a skeleton outlines:
  • the points that you want to cover
  • specific details that you would like to include, and
  • any examples that you would like to use to get your thoughts across.
Therefore, it already gives your text a good foundation that you can easily flesh the rest of your piece to make it coherent and, well, readable.

3. Do sprints
Practice is the key to mastering any task. Therefore, one of the best ways to get your writing fitness up is to practise with short sprints.

So, set out time in your day to complete small writing tasks in short intervals to prepare yourself to write quickly when it comes to the bigger and more important tasks.
