The magazine about books for book lovers, the Penguin Post is a marketing initiative from Penguin Random House South Africa (PRHSA), and a first from the publisher. PRHSA's list of books includes everything from nature and finance to cookery and children's, in both English and Afrikaans.

The magazine is keen to provide its loyal customer base with an entertaining and reliable source of author news and interviews around this diverse list. The publisher launched the magazine in 2020 when the South African media industry met an impasse due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

Lauren Mc Diarmid, who is the founding editor of the magazine, says, "It's been an absolute pleasure putting together every single edition of the Penguin Post.

"The effect that reading books have on us is unsurpassed. Books allow us entry into other worlds; they present us with characters and scenarios we may never encounter in our own lives, and in doing so, help us to better understand the human experience. What makes this magazine invaluable is that it helps expose people to that possibility," adds Diarmid.

Three years in, the magazine has gained a loyal following of readers, both locally and abroad, and continues to publish interesting and informative content around PRHSA's impressive stable of books and their expert authors, says the publishing house.

To celebrate its third anniversary, the Penguin Post's birthday edition has a host of exciting giveaways.

Prizes include:
  • tickets to Cape Town’s Open Book Festival
  • placements in the Creative Writing Intensive from SA Writers College
  • restaurant vouchers to Nederburg’s Manor restaurant
  • a collection of ten must-read novels, plus a R1 000 voucher towards a bookcase, and
  • a glorious foodie hamper from some of Penguin's favourite local cookbook authors.
