Women’s Health South Africa, the new women’s lifestyle magazine published by Touchline Media in partnership with Rodale Inc, has named Kate Wilson Editor of the magazine, it was announced by Jason Brown, Editorial Director across the Rodale-Touchline titles including Men’s Health; Women’s Health; Runner’s World; and Bicycling.

“We’re thrilled that Kate will soon be joining the Women’s Health team. I couldn’t think of a more accomplished editor to lead this dynamic brand. Kate’s skills as an editor, together with her insight and experience in the women’s market, will play a huge role in positioning Women’s Health as a market leader,” says Brown.

Wilson, currently Editor of Marie Claire, published by Associated Magazines, is one of the most prominent names in the South African magazine industry, with over 15 years’ experience in numerous high-profile roles, including launch editor and publishing director of SL and Y magazines; deputy editor of Hotdog (UK); chief sub editor of Maxim (UK); and editor of House and Leisure.

Commenting on her new appointment as Editor, Wilson said, “Women’s Health has been a huge success internationally and I think this reflects a real shift in priorities for the women in this age category. They no longer feel they have something to prove (in their relationships or their careers) and aspire to living full, but balanced lives. I’m interested in doing that myself, so this felt like the right challenge for me right now. I’m also really excited about being able to work on a brand that extends across media platforms and which has the potential to reach and influence so many South African women.”

During Wilson’s four-year tenure as editor of Marie Claire, the magazine received several high-profile awards, including a 2007 PICA award for Best International General Interest Magazine, awards for health and wellness writing in both 2007 and 2008, and a CNN African Journalism award in the consumer category.

“Kate’s appointment is wonderful news for Touchline Media and Women’s Health,” said Nic Wides, Managing Director of Touchline Media. “She is a great talent – fresh, smart and inspiring; exactly what we were looking for. The Women’s Health brand is already represented by our newly launched website, and with a powerhouse editor like Kate driving this globally successful brand, through both our print and digital mediums, Women’s Health is set to invigorate the South African media and magazine landscape.”

The launch issue of Women’s Health South Africa will be available on newsstands on 21 October. The magazine will be published 10 times per year with a print order of 98 000 copies and a cover price of R29.95. The interactive Women’s Health website, www.WomensHealthSA.co.za, speaks to every aspect of a woman’s life, including health; fitness; nutrition; emotional wellbeing; sex and relationships; beauty; and fashion.
