Icora FM is a community radio station that broadcasts on the 100.40 frequency and is situated in the northern part of KwaZulu-Natal, Eshowe. It was established on 10 December 1997 in King Dinuzulu Township Eshowe. The prime objective was, and still is, to redress the imbalances of the past, particularly in rural areas. The idea of forming this radio station was born out of the conviction that the station would stimulate and guide the communities to action. Some programmes that are broadcast address teenage pregnancies; sexually transmitted diseases; child abuse; drug additions; and other development issues. The station’s mission is to free its listeners from diseases; poverty; racism; illiteracy; and all other forms of oppression. It strives to empower, inform and to create a forum of change through relevant programming. Icora FM also promotes tourism in the area.
