‘Vuka Uzenzele’ with the Hallmark Channel
Christina Foley, Commercial Director of the Hallmark Channel, recently visited South Africa to support the ‘Remarkable Women’ campaign, set to take place on DStv’s channel 8 during August.
The remarkable women of the, ‘Vuka Uzenzele’ (meaning ’wake up and do it yourself’) job creation project in the Zandspruit informal settlement, received a donation from the Hallmark Channel to assist in the creation of a website to market their unique range of hand-made products. Up until recently they have relied solely on word-of-mouth referrals.
The Vuka Uzenzele Ladies Sewing Club provides the Zandspruit community with the skills necessary to create top-quality, handmade, embroidered products. The Sewing Club adheres to strict quality specifications and also provides its members with a sense of pride and purpose in what they are doing, allowing some of them to move on to permanent employment as a result.
The Hallmark Channel will be offering a line-up of inspiring and remarkable women during the month of August, as well as some of South Africa’s own heroines, like the women of Vuka Uzenzele.
For advertising opportunities during the Remarkable Women campaign contact Amy Gopal, Channel Executive on 011 329 5017.
