SABCNews.co.za reports that the South African Broadcasting Corporation's (SABC's) new board and Group CEO have vowed to restore the integrity of the public broadcaster and address financial challenges facing the corporation.
Newly-appointed SABC board Chairperson, Ben Ngubane, and Group CEO, Solly Mokoetle, were addressing the media in Johannesburg following the handing over of duties by the outgoing interim board to the incoming board on Wednesday, 13 January.
Ngubane has denied claims that there are divisions within the new board over the appointment of Mokoetle. Mokoetle's appointment as Group CEO has not been without controversy. He reportedly left the SABC in a huff as Chief Operations Officer following a damning audit report by Gobodo Forensic and Investigative Accounting in 2005. Reports say he failed in his corporate governance duties. There were also claims that the new board was divided over his appointment.
