SABC1 has officially released information regarding the launch of the channel’s new ambassadors/presenters. It has also released a new television commercial and its new-look website. It aims to revolutionise television viewing, connecting Mzansi Fo Sho with “Living in Mzansi”.
Although the creation of the channel’s new commercial had taken longer than expected, the maxim that “patience is a virtue” runs true here. The advertisement captures the essence of "Living in Mzansi". This is facilitated by bringing in familiar and authentic imagery from everyday life in South Africa. It also adds fire to the discussion of what it really means to be living in Mzansi, and not just from current perspectives.
SABC1 believes that the commercial comes at a time when today’s youth still sought to place itself within the historical political cultural space. The commercial will talk to the sentiments of the youth.
The release of the commercial heralds the beginning of the second phase of the channel’s new brand communication campaign.
As well as announcing its new commercial, SABC1 has gone through a lengthy process of auditions. The channel was looking for individuals of a specific calibre that represented the channel from a language point of view. Presenters also had to represent the audience's experience with the channel and extend its elements through lifestyle, social responsiveness and community engagements.
Casting agents were given the task of finding adequate presenters. SABC1 - Mzansi Fo Sho announces the addition of the following presenters to its broadcasting: Lalla “Miss LA” Hirayama (English); Zongie “Zongolong” Mtshontshi (IsiXhosa); Nhlanhla “Cutee” Ngwenya (IsiSwati); and Steve “Stevovo” Smith (English). The presenters are considered Channel Ambassadors, and they will serve as custodians of Mzansi’s favourite Television Channel and Africa’s biggest media brand.
The current SABC1 presenters have been retained, and the total number of channel presenters is now seven.
The channel has also launched a new channel website, which aims to enhance and emphasise the importance of interaction between the channel and its stake-holders, enable the press to receive timeous and accurate channel information, promote the channel’s programmes, activities and events, and interaction between the online audience and the channel’s General Manager.
