When OFM presenter, Rian van Heerden, announced at the end of his show on Tuesday, 15 February that his show the next day would be called 'Mambo Jumbo and the seven dwarves', a lot of listeners thought, “What is he up to now?”

With the annual South African Dwarf Festival taking place next weekend in Standerton and the fact that the world’s shortest woman - Madge Bester - resides in Bloemfontein, van Heerden and the Mambo Jumbo team decided to do the 'Mambo Jumbo and the seven dwarves' show.

Now, as the story goes, one cannot have seven dwarves and no Snow White, so Meloni Munro, the traffic presenter on the team was an easy choice when it came to nominating someone to play the part of Snow White for the show.

Every fifteen minutes during the three-hour show, van Heerden spoke to a dwarf to find out a little more about their lives and inform people on some of the difficulties that they face on a daily basis. He also spoke to Deon Calitz, president of the Dwarf Festival, to get more details on the Festival weekend. Mambo Jumbo ended off the three-hour show by hosting the world’s shortest living woman, Madge Bester, who is a mere 63cm tall in the studio.

The Dwarf Festival
There are 8 000 dwarves residing in South Africa. This year, the annual Dwarf Festival is presented from 26 to 28 February in Standerton. Organisers of the Festival promise a weekend which the whole family can enjoy – from food stalls to entertainment from various South African artists. Although they face financial difficulties with the organising of the Festival, they are optimistic that the weekend will be huge success and that visitors will turn up in their thousands.
