Glitzy reality show, Supersterre, returns to SABC2 screens with a brand new season on Friday, 19 March at 19:30.
After the successfully launching two mega stars in the previous seasons, Supersterre 3 promises to make another aspiring young musician’s dream come true. Hosted by Patricia Lewis and Brandon October, the new season promises to be bigger and better.
Having successfully hosted on SABC since 1989, and more recently on SABC2 with the shows, Blonde Ambisie and Bang Jan, Doei Jan, Patricia Lewis, pitched the idea of a new reality show in 2005, backed by SONY Music and has never looked back.
The panel has three resident judges and every week a guest judge is invited to join the panel. After being part of the formidable judging panel for the past two seasons, Sharleen Surtie Richards and Theuns Jordaan, are joined in this season by actor and comedian, Casper De Vries.
The top 10 contestants will then be coached by well known and established musicians. Each of the five musicians/coaches is assigned to two contestants.
Viewers can look forward to the former Idols winner, Heinz Winckler, as one of the coaches this season. He is also joined by Biaca le Grange, who was one of the coaches in season one; Afrikaans female artist, Lianie May; classic pop opera and current platinum seller, Manuel Escorcio; and Gerhard Steyn who is famous for the mega-hit, 'Baby Chocolates'.
At the end of each episode, a winner for that episode is announced. Three contestants with the lowest score are called forward and one of them gets eliminated based on the judges' scoring.
The overall winner of the competition will receive a recording contract worth R500 000, which includes a music video recording, courtesy of Sony Music, plus R100 000 in cash. The winner’s coach will also receive the prize money of R100 000.
