This week, M-Net’s Survivor South Africa: Santa Carolina lost a formidable player, a hot bod and a treasured red Speedo. It all happened when his conniving tribe mates gave the Egoli actor and musician, Izak Davel the marching orders at the end of a remarkable episode in which he declared that the show has 'turned him into a man'.

Viewers need not weep at Izak’s departure, however. From next week onwards the show’s much-talked about eye-candy will move to the jury, the group who will choose the Ultimate Survivor, the celebrity contestant who will walk off with R500 000 for him/herself as well as R500 000 for the charity of his/her choice. Izak joins Hanna Grobler; Louw Venter; Okkert Brits; and Gys de Villiers, who all have an axe to grind after being tossed off the show.

The famous Red Speedo could also turn into a feature elsewhere. Izak has parted with the little number to raise more money for his charity, Ons Huis, which unfortunately won’t be getting the R500 000 anymore. The Speedo is up for auction on the Survivor South Africa website and will go to the highest bidder. To place your bid, go to www.mnet.co.za/survivor and simply fill out the auction form with all your details.

Izak’s departure was a crafty ploy by fellow alliance member, Ashley Hayden who, in an effort to keep herself from writing Izak’s name down (and feeling like she’s ‘slain a brother’) at the tribal council, corralled the rest of the tribe into an even 2 – 2 – 2 vote between Izak; Sade; and GiGi. In the event of a tie, previous votes are taken into account. Having one vote against him, Izak had to say his goodbyes.

Did the vote reveal that the newly-formed female alliance of Ashley; GiGi; and Sade is firmly entrenched? Or are there some surprises awaiting the ladies? Survivor fans will remember how Ashley turned out to be the only female player left in tribe Timbila – and Kaseran and ProVerb have come a long way by her side.

For the second week in a row, Ashley won the Immunity Challenge, which exempt her from a vote at tribal council and at this stage she’s the only contestant whose name has never been written down by any of her tribe mates.

Izak won the exciting reward challenge that saw him inviting Ashley Hayden onto a deep-sea fishing charter, accompanied with a Hunter’s Dry picnic. The abundant food mixed with sea swells and his first taste of alcohol in a month, proved too much for the deprived survivor – he spent a good deal of time leaning over the side of the boat throwing up!

Survivor South Africa fans can go to the M-Net website – to watch exclusive episodic footage and behind the scenes videos. See Izak wolfing down his first chocolate and his emotional ‘message-in-a-bottle’ clip that was filmed directly after his reward challenge win.

By visiting the website, viewers also have the opportunity to win amazing prizes including a Volvo C30; a trip to Indigo Bay Resort and Spa; as well as thousands of Rands worth of Pick n Pay vouchers.
