Being the ultimate pranksters, Nigel Pierce and his breakfast show team once again created some confusion amongst the Good Hope FM listeners on 1 April with an April Fools Day prank that caused quite a few laughs and ruffled a couple of feathers.

With the start of his breakfast show at 06:00 on 1 April, Pierce and his team claimed that Good Hope FM is changing its music format and language of broadcast with immediate effect. The prank was built around the premise that with South Africa having 11 official languages, and Afrikaans being widely spoken and understood by many residents in the Cape Town Metropole, station management decided that it was only natural to change the station’s 'official' broadcast language to Afrikaans. With this of course came the additional change to add quite a few Afrikaans songs to the usual playlist, all in support of local artists.

Almost every word spoken during the first two hours of the show, from 06:00 and 08:00 was in Afrikaans, including all news and sports bulletins, and even input from the show’s prankster, The Knob, re-christened for the day as 'Die Knop'.

The in studio team had many a laugh, some very gullible listeners phoned raising concerns about the change in music but many phone calls and emails from listeners indicated that they enjoyed the slight music change and shared in the laughter with some of the not so fluent in Afrikaans team member’s translations.

At 08:00, Nigel and his team let the cat out of the bag by reminding listeners of the day’s date and then rewarded them with a 30-minute Old School mix, all to set the refreshing tone for the long weekend.

Any alarmed listeners can rest assured that the only real change on Good Hope FM will be the minor on-air line-up changes that will take effect from 1 April.
