Mamas & Papas TV show, due to air for the first time on Saturday, 10 April on SABC3, will see a fresh face as its lead presenter.

Nawaal Motlekar, Managing Director of Kwenta Media and Founding Editor of one-year-old Mamas & Papas magazine, will be the lead anchor of the magazine show, and will be joined by well-known South Africans; experts; and parents every week as she takes the magazine onto the TV platform.

“The TV show will be not be like anything we’ve seen before in parenting and lifestyle TV programmes in South Africa. It will be irreverent; sometimes controversial; informative; fun; entertaining; and deeply rooted in South Africa and its traditional beliefs and will look great,” says the show’s Producer, Alicia Geldenhuys.

In the first episode, starting at 11:30 on Saturday, 10 April, the subjects of post natal depression; introducing kids to pets; and money matters will be discussed and joining Nawaal on the show will be well-known radio personality and Motswako host, Penny Lebyane

“I’m a bit nervous and yet very excited about appearing on national TV, but this is all in the quest to bring the Mamas & Papas experience ever-closer to its readers and now viewers,” says Motlekar.

Motlekar continues to say that “it has been challenging yet fulfilling being an executive producer and presenter of my own show. What we will be bringing viewers is a chic and unique parenting and family lifestyle TV show that will foster intimate conversations with its viewers.”

Motlekar, herself a mother to three-year-old Zaawi’, is also a business-woman and wife to Faizal Motlekar. She is no stranger to the media world, having gained invaluable experience as Managing Editor of Heritage magazine and presenter of Incwenga/Emagugu on SABC1. She’s also lived in London where she was Country Manager: UK and Ireland for SA Tourism.

“The sometimes lonely yet empowering experience of living alone overseas and my joy at being a mother was the seed that began the journey of Mamas & Papas. It was whilst I was in London that I saw just how important it was for all parents to have parenting and lifestyle information that is empowering, presented in a beautiful and stylish manner and that’s what I hope to provide for all parents and parents-to-be through the Mamas & Papas magazine, website and now the TV show,” says Nawaal.

Ever stylish; sophisticated; and well-groomed herself, Motlekar loves spending time with her young family, taking time out to travel the world and to be inspired, as well as scouring some of South Africa’s many malls looking for something really special to take away the retail itch.

“I’ve always believed that hard work; doing what you’re good at and passionate about; innovation; and a sense of curiosity about the world and what happens around you are some of the cornerstones of building a lasting legacy and sustainable businesses,” concludes Motlekar.

Viewers can tune in to SABC3 on Saturday, 10 April at 11:30 to watch the début Mamas & Papas TV show.
