The second annual
South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) were held on Saturday, 27 October at Gallagher Estate. Nominees for the
Awards were announced in September. The SAFTA 2007 team received 245 entries for the competition. The judging panel this year consisted of more than 60 members of professionals and practitioners in the industry.
When We Were Black, which is a mini-series screening on SABC1, was a runaway success at the television drama awards. It took home seven awards. The show’s awards included the most prestigious prize: the Best TV Drama.
When We Were Black is a four-part minseries created and directed by Khalo Matabane. He won the Golden Horn for Best Director.
Heartlines and
The Lab walked away with three awards each, while SABC3’s
Isidingo won 10 of the 14 soap opera awards. SABC2’s
Muvhango received two awards, and SABC1’s
Generations and e.tv’s
Scandal! each won an award.
There were no runaway winners in the comedy awards, with all honours evenly spread across the board. M-Net’s
Laugh Out Loud received the award for Best Comedy and two other awards, while
Stokvel received three awards.
