SABC2’s Supersterre on Friday, 2 November was an emotional night for all viewers, as little Antonie Bougas from the Cape was eliminated from the show, despite delivering an excellent performance.
Audiences of the show have been drawn to Antonie, with his deep and soulful voice, and at fifteen years of age he has captured hearts across the country. He was not only the youngest contestant in this season of the show, but was the first to sing an original song, written by himself, and dedicated to all the grandmothers in South Africa.
He was commended by the judges for taking the risk, and he was also complimented on his professionalism as he delivered the performance.
On Friday, Antonie dedicated his song to his mother and all mothers, because “a mother is the biggest pillar of strength in one’s life”. The judges seemed pleased with his performance, with Shaleen Surtie-Richards unable to resist his singing talent, and Theuns Jordaan complimented him on his stage presence.
Antonie, when asked how he would feel if he left, stated that he would leave with a smile, because fate was not always in humanity’s hands.
Many were surprised that Antonie was eliminated, but, according to Theuns Jordaan, “We’re at that stage of the competition where the good people are also leaving”.
Viewers can vote for Antonie to return as a Supernova, SMS “SS ANTONIE” to 34767. Supersterre is the only reality show that gives contestants a second chance.
The remaining contestants are Justine, Priscilla, Donovan and Kobus. Watch Supersterre on Friday to find out who the next contestant to leave will be.
