The Witness has reported that popular local radio station P4 has become Gagasi 99.5FM. Pearl Sokhulu, the station’s general manager, says: “It’s not only the name that’s changed, but the whole feel of the station has become the soundtrack of the youthful, upwardly mobile listener who is mainly bilingual, residing in the urban areas of KZN.” So far the new format seems to be working, if advertising is anything to go by, with eight signing up on launch day to target the 20 to 34 age bracket. The station’s line-up features Alex Mthiyane, formerly at Ukhozi FM, former Metro FM personality Justice Ramahlola and familiar voices including Sexa Strydom, Mathumo Manaka and Mandla Mgcogo. Gagasi is the first radio station to broadcast in both English and Zulu in KwaZulu-Natal.
