Brooklyn native, Dwayne Perkins (3 to 5 June) is a newcomer to the comedy game – but has already racked up appearances on Late Night With Conan O’Brien; The Late Late Show; and has become a regular crowd-pleaser on comedy club stages in New York; Boston; and Los Angeles. His recent prestigious Comedy Central Presents… Dwayne Perkins episode showcased his unique perspective on life and won him a horde of admirers. With his sights firmly set on acting and writing, Dwayne is already inspiring a host of younger comedians.

Parker’s Comedy & Jive welcomes back a piece of South African comedy history in June 2010 as the venue hosts three reunion performances of groundbreaking comedy show, Biltong & Potroast (17 to 19 June), the international phenomenon first seen on South African television screens in 1976. The Biltong & Potroast team performed their own special brand of nostalgic comedy to packed houses during the show’s first run at Parker’s in February and have decided to return after enjoying themselves so immensely during that run!

Featuring four of the original cast members – Mel Miller; Cyril Green; Eddie Eckstein; and Dennis MacLean – Biltong & Potroast 2010 is set to take audiences on a no-holds-barred trip back to the advent of South African stand-up comedy! Having accumulated nearly 200 years of comedy experience between them, Miller; Green; Eckstein; and MacLean reprise their roles which made the television show a must-see during the dawn of South African television broadcasting.

While the foursome aim to roll back the years for those who loved the television series, they won’t shy away from tackling content relevant to life in South Africa in the 21st century.

Carte Blanche presenter and celebrity MC, Bonita Gorrie-Nuttal (aka Bonita G), will also be hosting a fascinating series of discussion evenings at Parker’s on 1 and 8 June. The G-Rebellion uses an upbeat, old-time radio show ('The G-Spot') as the theme to kick-start a feel-good exploration of what it takes for us to experience ourselves as 'Good Enough' at work; at home; and at play.

The G-Rebellion is Bonita’s unique take on challenging status quo, where the media, in particular, and society, in general, foster a victim mentality that causes us to feel perpetually dissatisfied. The G-Spot’s live radio sound stage provides an ideal set for Bonita G to perform authentic and entertaining promos that show how regrets from the past and fears of the future often limit our possibilities in the present. Using an array of musical instruments and her fantastic voice, this talented and versatile entertainer takes on a do-it-yourself attitude and gets the audience participating in the creation of the radio show’s sound effects. It’s a fitting and entertaining metaphor for the message that getting more of the good things that we really want in our lives is in own hands.
