94.7 Highveld Stereo will make history by becoming the first radio station in South Africa to offer mobile downloads of its content when it launches its first podcast product next week.
As from Monday, 28 August
94.7 Highveld Stereo listeners will be able to download the Rude Awakening's popular, daily traffic joke and listen to it on demand.
One can access the download by podcasting it directly from the
94.7 Highveld Stereo website or by texting the word JOKE to the number 33847, and then accessing the link provided to download the audio file directly onto a mobile phone. These sms's are charged at R1.50 per sms and free sms bundles do not apply.
The mobile downloads are done via WAP, which enables Internet access from mobile phones.To download the
94.7 Highveld Stereo content, mobile phones need to be WAP-enabled and must accept service messages.
Primedia broadcasting general manager, Ryan Till says, “We're very excited to be entering the world of digital downloads with this, our first mobile offering. The Rude Awakening's traffic joke is extremely popular with listeners, so we thought it would be the perfect on-air feature to start podcasting. The joke will be available for download from 9am each weekday”.
