The event was based on an interesting idea – as the sun began to set, we were introduced to the clever idea of having a ‘night-time’ and ‘day-time’ version of the logo for the new M-Net Movies 1 HD channel offering, available from 1 October, to DStv Premium subscribers who have an HD PVR decoder. The night-time logo is set against a black background, with the day-time version set against a white backdrop.
The channel launch will bring the total number of HD channels on the DStv platform to five, as M-Net Movies 1 HD joins the current stable of M-Net HD; Discovery HD Showcase; SuperSport HD; and SuperSport HD 2.

Aletta Alberts, GM: Content for MultiChoice Africa, comments that: “High Definition channels are the fastest growing product globally, and therefore our focus is on rolling out as many HD channels as possible onto the DStv platform, taking into account bandwidth restrictions.”

This gives Multichoice viewers an enhanced entertainment experience, with M-Net Movies 1 and the HD version airing movies in their première seasons, along with special viewing days and slots. ‘Family movies’ is the theme for the channel’s launch month, which will include ‘Family Fridays’; ‘Feel Good Saturdays’; ‘Blockbuster Sundays’; ‘Only for the Ladies’; and ‘Man-Days’.

The M-Net Movies 1 HD channel (DStv channel 175), will be a simulcast of M-Net Movies 1, meaning that the same programming will broadcast at the same time on the channels, with the HD quality as the only differing factor, giving HD TV owners a little something extra.

Post-launch, attendees were invited to watch the top eight Idols contestants performing in that evening’s live concert at the Mosaiek Teatro.
