SABC2’s 2010 festive line-up

SABC2 presents its December line-up and the upcoming schedule changes as part of its 2010 festive celebrations. Most notably, its 08:00 weekday slots will switch from Current Affairs and Tube to family movies, from 13 to 31 December.
Here’s what to look forward to:
08:00 Weekday Movie Mania
The 08:00 movie mania kicks off with the rerun of Scooby-Doo And The Loch Ness Monster (13 December). Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. travel to Scotland to visit Daphne's relatives at Blake Castle, which is situated on Loch Ness, home of the legendary creature who has recently been stalking Daphne's cousin Fiona. In Scooby-Doo In Where’s My Mummy (14 December), archaeologist and super sleuth, Velma, is in Egypt for the unveiling ceremony of the restored Sphinx - a mysterious mythical creature with the head of a man and the body of a lion - only to discover a hidden tomb belonging to Cleopatra herself! The Scooby Doo festival continues with Aloha Scooby Doo (15 December), where Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. gang head to Hawaii for a big surfing contest that is disrupted by the rumblings of a nearby volcano and the disappearance of one of the surfers.
A romantic comedy featuring Oscar nominee and director, Matt Dillon, You, Me and Dupree plays out on 16 December at 23:00, as he portrays a loyal best friend forced to deal with the outrageous antics of a friend who becomes a houseguest and the effects it has on his marriage.
Other titles to look forward to throughout the December holidays include We’re Back on 16 December at 06:00. Produced by award winning director and filmmaker, Steven Spielberg, We’re Back is an animated feature about an inventor who travels back in time to fetch dinosaurs that he brings back to modern day New York City.

Musical Offering
SABC2's musical offerings consist of special broadcast, Celebrate Christmas at 05:30 on Christmas Day. This is the celebration from the famous Music and the Spoken Word series, presented by Lloyd Newell featuring the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performing well known Christmas songs and carols. The special guest, Audra McDonald, sings a medley of traditional spirituals, as well as Angels from the Realms of Glory.
Christmas Worship on 2: Living Nativity at 10:30 on Christmas day celebrates families all over South Africa, as they dust off their Nativity sets and lay them out, usually as the centrepiece of the Christmas decorations.
Another Christmas day special programme is Sing We Now Of Christmas at 14:30, from the famous Music and the Spoken Word series, presented by Lloyd Newell and which features the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performing well known Christmas songs and carols. Special guest is Gladys Knight singing Sweet Little Jesus Boy and Mary’s Boy Child.
We close off with the well-known Afrikaans recording pop artist and songwriter, Steve Hofmeyer, special on 31 December at 22:30. The recipient of the SAMA Award for best selling South African artist, Steve’s super performance promises to entertain audiences across all races.
