UpperCase Media (UCM), publishers of FHM, heat and now ZOO Weekly/Weekliks has announced the launch of ZOO Weekly with 150 000 sample copies distributed free with the new FHM November 2006, on sale from 26 September. ZOO Weekly is the first glossy, upmarket weekly lifestyle magazine for men. UCM will publish the on sale editions of ZOO Weekly in English and ZOO Weekliks in Afrikaans weekly from 17 October 2006. "UCM is taking the high ground in the men's lifestyle weekly market," comments publisher Kim Browne. "As is evident from the new free sample issue of ZOO Weekly, it is an upmarket, glossy new weekly read for affluent, urban South African men. It's killer stuff for guys!" UCM will support the free ZOO Weekly sample issue with FHM through a wide-ranging marketing campaign, including point of sale, television, radio, digital and ambient media. "One of our core competencies at UCM is magazine brand marketing expertise," explains Browne. "ZOO Weekly/Weekliks is therefore being nurtured as a valuable new brand from the very beginning. We're in publishing for the long haul, and have the talent and resources to ensure that we stay the distance. Weekly magazine publishing requires significant investment over a three to five year period and we have ensured that we offer the affluent South African guy a riveting, quality read every week, through thorough research over a two year period pre-launch." Brendan Cooper, previously FHM editor and now editorial director at UCM leads the ZOO Weekly/Weekliks editorial team. He and his talented team have created a new ZOO Weekly sample issue that provides a current, up-to-date idea of what readers can expect when the magazine goes on sale from 17 October 2006. Editorially the ZOO Weekly content features girls, sport, cars, gigs, jokes and gizmos. With its large print order of 150 000 free sample copies UCM is giving as many as possible potential readers the opportunity to experience ZOO Weekly. From 17 October 2006 a total of 85 000 for both language editions of ZOO Weekly/Weekliks will be printed and distributed nationwide on a weekly basis. UCM has also created an innovative new advertising sales package for exclusive advertisers. Only eight advertisers, in eight different product categories can take part in an exclusive opportunity to advertise in ZOO's first eight issues -- in one go -- during the most important eight weeks leading up to Christmas. These advertisers can take a page (or DPS) ad in each of the first eight issues of ZOO Weekly/Weekliks, while UCM will not allow any other competitor brand (or other relevant category) the opportunity to advertise in these highly promoted first eight issues. The applicable on sale dates of ZOO Weekly/Weekliks for this promotion run from 17 October (issue one) up to and including 5 December 2006 (issue eight). More details are available on www.zoo.co.za.
