14 February is usually filled with soppy poems, chocolates, helium heart-shaped balloons, teddies and roses. The Good Hope FM team decided to move in another direction and not support the traditional avenues of commercialisation of Valentine’s Day this year. Instead the station wants listeners to simply enjoy the entire day, without the frills and love songs and just dance...with the Anti-Love Revolution. The station will feature all the usual music in its current music format, but not one love song will be scheduled on the playlist for the day.

To interact with the station all day, listeners are encouraged to send their anti-love messages to the station via Twitter. All they have to do is to log on to Twitter and send their message - #tweetlove (followed by their message) - the Good Hope FM DJ’s will read the #tweetlove messages as they occur throughout the day. To make it more fun and tie in with the Anti–Love Revolution on the day, DJs will also encourage listeners to also send in funny, cheesy, and light hearted love quotes via Twitter to be read out to add a bit of humour on the day. No serious love stuff for the Good Hope FM team today.

All is not lost to those who are romantics at heart and who would still want to hear love songs on their favourite Cape Town station. During February, Good Hope FM’s on-air programming theme for the month is called February Foreplay, and this gives listeners another 27 days in February to tune in to a single or double play of heart wrenching and seriously romantic ballads during each show, just to set the right mood as the world celebrates their Valentines in February.

Another fun feature can also be found on Facebook; using the classic mechanic of people sharing love songs on Mix Tapes, Good Hope FM has created a Facebook version of this traditional gift. Using Facebook, users can create their own Mix Tape, complete with a personalised tape cover with a photo. This Mix Tape can then be shared either onto their Facebook wall or via e-mail. The recipient will have to go back to the Good Hope FM fan page on Facebook to be able to listen to their personalised Mix Tape.

It’s the Anti-Love Revolution on Good Hope FM - Connecting Cape Town.
