Bona magazine was recently awarded the Thetha Masombuka Award for multilingualism in media at the recent PanSALB Multilingualism Awards. The awards recognise individuals and organisations that actively promote and preserve South Africa’s 11 official languages, as well as Khoi, San, Nama and sign language.
Bona is the only magazine published in four of South Africa’s official languages – English, Sotho, Xhosa and Zulu – and has a readership of more than 3.6-million people*.
Ntokozo Maseko, Editor of Bona, attended the ceremony and received the award with the magazine’s Sotho Editor, Moeketsi Letsohla. “I’m delighted with this recognition because Bona is truly the only magazine in the country that offers its content in four of South Africa’s official languages. A lot of hard work is required in a short space of time for us to produce such an offering but it’s a labour of love which adds great value to our readers’ lives,” said Maseko after receiving the award.
Bona is published by Caxton Magazines and is available from leading news agents nationally.
