It’s For Life starts with three 20-something women discovering a squatter living in their new house whom the law then prevents them from evicting, the show has the makings of a bonafide, homegrown sitcom hit. It’s For Life stars Gugulethu Zuma as Coco, Nokuthula Zuma as Jabu, Nkuli Sibeko-Bortman as Zanele and Thalitha Ndima as Sam.

It’s the first time the two Zuma sisters (yes let’s get this out of the way – they are the daughters of South Africa’s State President) have starred in a sitcom, bringing to their roles a wealth of experience.

Thuli studied AFDA in Cape Town, majoring in acting for film and graduating with a BA in Live Performance. After first working in educational theatre she spent much of 2010 touring with the award winning one-woman show Tin Bucket Drum. Gugulethu also graduated with a BA degree in live performance (and the best actress award) from AFDA in 2006 and since then has had roles in television series, among them Interrogation Room and Isidingo.

Gugulethu takes the role of Coco, an Events Co-ordinator by profession and a so-called “coconut” by choice, actively distancing herself from her Zulu roots whilst embracing 21st urban living with passion and life. Nokuthula’s Jabu, meanwhile, is an aspiring radio DJ who lives for music and who simply cannot be boxed into any kind of stereotype.

These characters are joined by Sibeko-Bortman’s Zanele and Ndima’s Sam.

Zanele is an accountant by trade and the quiet one amongst the foursome, always supporting her boyfriend Sthe’s (Bonga Dlamini) outlandish money-making schemes. Sam, meanwhile, is the opposite of Zanele – a medical doctor doing her community service; she’s outgoing, a tomboy, always in your-face and a self-professed bachelorette.

Others in the cast include Charles Bougenous as Brad and Mitchell Khan as Chad – Brad being Coco’s on-off, on-off boyfriend and Chad being obsessed by Jabu in a sometimes weirdly sinister way.

It’s For Life is a fresh new sitcom about four young woman making their way through life in a fun, exciting and hilarious way. It’s about a group of 20-something South African women whom are destined to connect with Mzansi Magic’s female viewers in a big, big way – and will also win over male fans. It’s a story of four women who have ups-and-downs in love, career and friendship – but who will always be together, in one way or another, for life.
