Cape Town’s talented buskers and street entertainers are invited to the V&A Waterfront’s quarterly auditions Saturday, 20 August 2011. The auditions are open to all promising entertainers such as, musicians, sketch artists, stilt walkers, jugglers and mimes.
Marketing executive at the V&A Waterfront, Chantelle Kidd, says, “Busking is such an integral part of the V&A Waterfront experience. We strive to involve our local communities and encourage entrepreneurship by offering this opportunity for local artists to showcase their talent.”
Participants must be 18 years or older and must be able to present an identity document at the audition. Since remuneration is based exclusively on tips from spectators, performances need to appeal to families, and must be child-friendly, highly creative and professional.
Auditions will take place on a first come, first serve basis, and according to their audition numbers. All entertainers are required to register upon arrival, and will receive an audition number once the audition form is completed.
“An average of 85 000 people visit the V&A Waterfront daily and that number can increase to over 100 000 people in high season,” says Kidd. “This gives our buskers excellent exposure to local and international visitors.”
Some 35 buskers will be considered for the next four months compared to the current 20 current buskers on site at the V&A Waterfront.
Audition details are as follows
- Date: 20 August 2011
- Time: 10:00 – 17:00
- Venue: V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre
