(Sport: Soccer) SoccerLife magazine was the first international soccer title launched in South Africa. It is published by Johncom Media and comes out seven times a year. The magazine is edited by Rafora Rangongo. Simply put, soccer is showbiz on a scale from local to global, where the fans aren’t passive consumers but passionate participants. This is the reality of the world of soccer the world over, and South Africa is no exception. Soccerlife reflects the game in all its extremes – as is evident when paging trough the latest 122-page August/September edition. The magazine is well formatted in a simple, clear and concise three-column format, making reading easy and uncluttered; and it doesn’t just focus on soccer. Great motoring reviews and fashion tips are also included. According to the Jul-Dec 2005 ABC figures, the publication has a circulation of 27 379 (including 75 on controlled free distribution) and according to AMPS - an estimated readership of 165 000. Overall, the magazine’s core readership comprises of black, educated males, who live in urban areas and fall across all LSM brackets. Although the overall target age is 18-49, there is a bias towards the 18-29 age group. A bit of history SoccerLife magazine was launched in April 2004 and has brought a fresh and sophisticated brand to the soccer-loving public. This approach saw SoccerLife win the prestigious SAPPI PICA award for “Best Sports Magazine” in its debut year. Then, in the third quarter of 2005, Johncom Media upped its presence in soccer and launched the second SoccerLife title in the Metro section of the Sunday Times. Each week, a 12-page tabloid that covers both local and international soccer features is now included. This has a cirucaltion of 295 000 and a readership of some 1.4 million. 80% of those readers fall into the LSM 5-10 groups.
